(The Hosting News) – Popular certificate authority GlobalSign has a new chief technology officer. On Monday, the company announced that former Microsoft security engineering expert Ryan Hurst would take the position, bringing with him ten years of experience gained at his previous company.

At Microsoft, Hurst dealt with digital certificates via Microsoft’s Root Certificate program. Other previous responsibilities included biometrics, code signing, cryptography and more.

Discussing his new company in a press release, Hurst referred to GlobalSign as “one of the few pure-play Certificate Authorities.” Hurst also stated that the company “maintained one of the most credible names in the industry over its many years of delivering PKI solutions.”

“I am very excited to help direct the technical aspects of the company, as GlobalSign bolsters its position in the enterprise security market, in particular, its exciting new mobile and cloud security solutions,” Hurst commented.

Specific duties Hurst will oversee at GlobalSign as outlined by the company include product architecture, the company’s engineering and operations, compliance, standards development and the company’s vision for technology.

Meanwhile, GlobalSign CEO Steve Waite said bringing Hurst on will “immediately help GlobalSign fulfill our goal of providing trusted Digital Certificate solutions to enterprises and partners of all sizes.”

The appointment of Hurst follows last week’s announcement by the company that they had named former Networking4all CTO Paul van Brouwershaven the company’s new Business Development Director.

In December, the company made news when it introduced an enterprise solution for iOS device authentication (iOS is Apple’s mobile operating system for devices including the iPhone and iPad).

Among its services, GlobalSign offers products such as SSL, malware scanning, data privacy, email encryption, code signing certificates and more. The company also maintains technology partnerships with high profile companies including Citrix, Microsoft and Adobe. GlobalSign Launches iOS Device Authentication

Posted by: Jennifer  :  Category: Budget Hosting, Cheap Web Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Shared Hosting, Top 10 Hosting, VPS Hosting

(The Hosting News) – GlobalSign, one of the leading providers of Digital Certificates worldwide, today announced the launch of iOS Identity Certificates for iOS Authentication. iOS Identity Certificates are Digital Certificates designed specifically for the use with iOS devices (iPad, iTouch, iPhone, etc) to allow Certificate-based authentication to control access to corporate business services such as Exchange, ActiveSync, VPNs, WPA2, and Enterprise Wi-Fi networks.

Every day the number of Enterprises and employees relying on iOS devices to conduct business is increasing, giving Enterprises and users flexibility to stay connected whether in the office or on the road. While this increased level of connectivity is beneficial for the Enterprise, opening sensitive business services to mobile device users creates serious security risks and vulnerabilities that must be addressed.

GlobalSign’s iOS Authentication solution mitigates these risks by allowing certificate-based authentication. Network Administrators can issue Certificates to approved mobile devices, allowing users to access business services without relinquishing employee control of their mobile devices.

iOS identity Certificates are packaged as an Enterprise PKI (ePKI) solution, using GlobalSign’s robust SaaS platform for managing multiple Digital Certificates. Key benefits to the ePKI service include:

  • Easy management of Certificate lifecycles (issuing, revoking, cancelling, reissuing, etc.)
  • Streamlined distribution of configuration profiles using the iPhone configuration utility, including passcode policies, Wi-Fi, VPNs, Exchange ActiveSync, or applications
  • Simplified Certificate delivery with over-the-air enrollment

“The threat network access via mobile devices poses to organizations was a hot topic at many security conferences this year, including RSA and EWF,” said Lila Kee, Chief Product Officer, GlobalSign US. “We believe our iOS Identity Certificates are a perfect fit for the ‘bring your own device’ era. By offering an easy to implement and cost-effective device authentication solution, they allow organizations to balance employee desire to use their own iOS devices for work and the need to protect against unauthorized access to key business applications.”

Organizations can purchase iOS Identity Certificates for as few as 5 users starting at an introductory pricing of $425/ per year for 1 year validity certificates. Other volume pricing and validity periods are available; please contact GlobalSign to learn more.

GlobalSign to Demo SSL Automation at cPanel

Posted by: Jennifer  :  Category: Budget Hosting, Cheap Web Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Shared Hosting, Top 10 Hosting, VPS Hosting

(The Hosting News) – GlobalSign (http://www.globalsign.com), a specialist in SSL partner programs and security automation technologies, today announced that it will be demonstrating the OneClickSSL plug-in for cPanel at the Automation Bootcamp cPanel Conference, held in Austin, Texas from October 10th- 12th.

Demonstrations of the OneClickSSL plug-in for cPanel will showcase how SSL Certificate provisioning can be entirely automated making server security easily accessible to organizations of all sizes and making a perfect add-on for the cutting edge and intuitive cPanel platform. OneClickSSL replaces the traditional, long-winded and error prone process of SSL provisioning with an automated “click to Activate SSL” workflow that is easily understood by customers of all technical abilities. Users simply activate SSL for their websites by redeeming Secure Site vouchers via the OneClickSSL plug-in. Redemption of the voucher via the plug-in transparently creates the cryptographic keys, the Certificate Signing Request (CSR), validates the control of the domain, installs the issued certificate and binds it to the appropriate website, all within 45 seconds.

Demonstrations of OneClickSSL will also showcase how cPanel users can directly install SSL Certificates to hosted cPanel instances on behalf of the customer at the WHM level, thereby offering hosting companies the most efficient way to provide SSL security ever available. Hosting providers also have the ability to push SSL Certificates onto end customer’s domains as a value added service and to bundle SSL Certificates with their hosting packages. For users that employ SSL for their own websites, OneClickSSL automates the traditional SSL lifecycle, reducing management cost and making implementation of SSL simpler and faster.

“GlobalSign has revolutionized SSL provisioning for hosting companies using the cPanel and other supporting platforms with our newest innovation, OneClickSSL” says Steve Roylance, Business Development Director for GlobalSign and key architect behind the OneClickSSL technology. “Since OneClickSSL is such a simple and easy to use solution that automatically prevents hindering SSL installation problems, it saves time and money for administrators and allows them focus on what really matters – their core business and how to build a profit.”

Live demonstrations include presentations at the cPanel TV Live booth (booth #8) and throughout the day at GlobalSign’s booth (booth #27).

(The Hosting News) – GMO GlobalSign Inc, one of the longest established Certification Authorities (CA) and specialists in SSL Partner Programs, today announced that AlmourolTec Lda – Ptisp, one of Portugal’s largest hosting and domain registration providers has joined the GlobalSign Partner Program, enabling the company to provide GlobalSign SSL Certificates to their extensive customer base.  The partnership will allow Ptisp’s customers to secure websites, online transactions, web mail and other next generation online services using GlobalSign highly trusted SSL technology.

As a provider of SSL Certificates for around four years, Ptisp made the decision to switch to the GlobalSign Partner Program as demand in the Portuguese market for online security is at an all-time high. Ptisp was looking for a partner CA who could provide them with an all-round solution to meet specific customer security requirements, while helping raise awareness of online threats. As a partner, Ptisp will be able to resell the full range of feature-packed, high-security SSL Certificates and to benefit from GlobalSign’s multilingual customer service and sales and marketing support provided via its European offices.

The ease of integration and automation technologies were the main driver behind Ptisp’s adoption of the GlobalSign SSL Certificate range. Ptisp will be implementing GlobalSign’s latest OneClickSSL technology, which will allow their customers to activate secure sites in seconds, directly from their control panel. OneClickSSL rewrites the SSL paradigm by moving away from the traditional, long-winded and error prone process of SSL provisioning and replacing it with an automated “click to Activate SSL” workflow. The revolutionary levels of automation will allow Ptisp to meet increasing demands for SSL, whilst reducing their technical support overheads as the process can easily be understood by customers of all technical abilities.

“As a hosting company, and not dealing with customers directly, we need to create partnerships that transmit confidence to our customers”, said Luís Inverno, CTO, AlmourolTec Lda – Ptisp.  “GlobalSign is a trusted and global SSL leader which offers a comprehensive provisioning system, competitive pricing, innovative technologies and overall expertise in the channel market – all key tools to enable us to successfully resell SSL.”

“With the ongoing success of our SSL Partner Program we are delighted to welcome Ptisp on board as our latest partner and look forward to them taking our trusted solutions to their customer base”, said Paul Tourret, Managing Director, GlobalSign EMEA.  “Ptisp is yet another example of an influential, locally focused webhosting company choosing GlobalSign and we look forward to jointly providing high security solutions to the Portuguese market.”

Partnering with GlobalSign will enable Ptisp to offer GlobalSign’s full range of SSL Certificates, including fast issuance Domain Validated SSL, traditional Organization Validated SSL and the newly standardized Extended Validation (EV) SSL, which activates the green address bar interface in IE, Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari browsers.  All GlobalSign SSL Certificates are inclusive of basic Malware Scanning, have the option of including additional premium features (for example, Subject Alternative Names (SANs) and wildcard characters, to allow the securing of multiple sites with a single certificate) and are issued from GlobalSign’s widely distributed 2048 bit Root CA Certificate.

GlobalSign’s SSL Certificates are now available from Ptisp and their products and solutions can be found at their recently re-launched website www.ptisp.com

WHMCS Platform Integrates GlobalSign

(The Hosting News) – GMO GlobalSign Ltd (http://www.globalsign.co.uk), one of the longest established Certification Authorities (CA) and specialist in SSL and Digital Certificate security, today announced that its revolutionary new OneClickSSL technology allowing the automation of SSL reselling, has been integrated into the latest version of WHMCS’s billing platform.

Since partnering with WHMCS and initially embedding GlobalSign’s SSL reselling module into its platform in 2010, hundreds of hosting providers around the world have benefited from the simplicity of controlling the billing cycle of all hosting products they chose to resell, including GlobalSign SSL Certificates. Over this time GlobalSign and WHMCS have worked closely together in developing the module to incorporate GlobalSign’s full range of SSL Certificates, including basic level Domain Validated SSL, to the most advanced Extended Validation (EV) SSLCertificates, opening up many new opportunities for GlobalSign SSL Resellers. Now OneClickSSL has been added, WHMCS offers the complete GlobalSign SSL portfolio.

With OneClickSSL, hosting customers purchase Secure Site Vouchers from their hosting provider. The customer goes on to redeem the voucher via any one of the OneClickSSL plug-ins, (including CPanel, Parallels, Plesk, IIS and Apache), by simply entering the voucher code and clicking “Activate SSL”. Customers have an SSL secured website in only seconds, reducing the support overhead and overall involvement of the hosting company, generating higher margins from the opportunity reselling SSL has to offer, enabling hosts to focus on their core business.

“Making OneClickSSL vouchers available through WHMCS further helps hosts offer SSL security to customers of all technical abilities”, said Steve Roylance, Business Development Director, GlobalSign. “The vouchers and plug-ins do all of the technical work, including key generation, creation of Certificate Signing Request, validation of control of domain and installation of SSL Certificate, all within 45 seconds”.

“We are always eager to keep up to date with the latest hosting and security technologies and we are proud to be the first billing platform to be able to offer GlobalSign’s new OneClickSSL service”, said Matthew Pugh, Lead Developer, WHMCS. “Putting WHMCS users ahead of the competition is a key strategy for us and we look forward to integrating future GlobalSign SSL developments in the near future”.

GlobalSign’s OneClickSSL module will be included in the next release of WHMCS V4.6 as standard. If users are running on version 4.5 or earlier, the module will need to be installed and can be found athttp://www.whmcs.com/globalsignssl.php

GlobalSign Celebrates 10 Consecutive Years

Posted by: Jennifer  :  Category: Budget Hosting, Cheap Web Hosting, Dedicated Hosting, Reseller Hosting, Shared Hosting, Top 10 Hosting, VPS Hosting

(The Hosting News) – GlobalSign, one of the longest established Certification Authorities (CA), today announced successfully achieving the WebTrust Seal of Assurance for Certification Authorities for the tenth consecutive year by its auditors Ernst & Young. The WebTrust Seal was awarded to GlobalSign after stringent auditing of its business and identity vetting practices employed when issuing Digital Certificates. This achievement demonstrates GlobalSign’s commitment to providing the digital world with a decade’s worth of confidence in highly trusted Digital Certificates; giving GlobalSign one of the longest WebTrust compliance records throughout the SSL and CA industry.

Created by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA), the universally recognized WebTrust Program for CAs standardizes the management of Digital Certificates and the policies and practices of CAs. Every major CA is now required to undergo the WebTrust audit, which rigorously examines practices such as customer authentication procedures, physical, network and logical security surrounding the Certificate issuance infrastructure, handling of customer data, business continuity planning as well as a thorough appraisal of warranty plans, an area in which GlobalSign leads the industry. It is imperative that Certificate Authorities be held to the highest standards.

In 2002, GlobalSign became one of the first CAs worldwide to attain the original WebTrust compliancy accreditation. Back then the Internet was home to less than 40 million websites, of which 180,000 were secured with SSL. Fast forward ten years and the Internet has grown to 400 million sites with almost 1.8m active SSL Certificates (source: Netcraft). Despite the advent of new threats like phishing and identity theft, GlobalSign has continued to meet the standards outlined by the WebTrust auditors.

“We are proud to have achieved one of the longest periods in WebTrust compliance in the industry,” said Steve Roylance, WW Business Development Director for GlobalSign. “The past ten years have seen a remarkable evolution in e-commerce and digital security and we are proud of our ability to adapt to a constantly changing market. This award speaks to our integrity and commitment to maintaining the highest possible standards.”

GlobalSign Expands Further into Spanish Market

(The Hosting News) – GlobalSign, one of the longest established Certification Authorities (CA) and specialists in Digital Certificate security, today announced the expansion of the GlobalSign brand further into the Spanish speaking market through the launch of http://www.globalsign.es. The fully localised web presence, backed-up by dedicated sales and support services in the native language will guarantee Spanish-speaking customers easy access to GlobalSign’s leading Digital Certificate solutions; making for a quick, effective and hassle-free experience.

With more than 1.7 million websites in Spain, only about 1% of those sites (12004) are SSL secured, meaning the risk of online fraud and identity theft are an everyday threat. GlobalSign, the first European Certification Authority, aims to educate customers about online threats, best security practices and appropriate solutions to help organisations mitigate the risks of using the Internet.

GlobalSign’s range of SSL Certificates help website owners ensure that any data transmitted over the Internet remains secure from prying eyes. The move into the Spanish market comes at a time when the Spanish SSL market is booming. As organisations recognise the need to protect themselves and their customers, secure sites have increased by almost 10% since the beginning of 2011. GlobalSign will help respond to increasing demand in SSL with a feature-packed offering and a simplified user experience through sales and customer service in the local language.

GlobalSign will be offering its full range of SSL Certificates directly to help meet a wide range of customer security requirements at cost-effective levels. The GlobalSign SSL products include fast issuance DomainSSL, Organisation Validated SSL and the most advanced and visible Extended Validated (EV) SSL Certificates. All GlobalSign Certificates use the strongest security levels available, with all browsers of all ages benefiting from the same strong encryption. GlobalSign SSL also works with every imaginable device that could connect to the customer’s website. All SSL Certificates also provide a free malware monitoring service, which scans the website for compromise and alerts website owners of the presence of malicious code, allowing then to tackle two major security concerns with a single product.

“GlobalSign is already familiar with the Spanish SSL market through our channel customers, and the new direct presence is an exciting development to further strengthen the GlobalSign brand in Spain and throughout Europe,” said Paul Tourret, managing director, GMO GlobalSign Ltd. “GlobalSign products provide the ideal answer for customers looking to secure their websites, online identities, and electronic documents. We look forward to helping enterprises meet data security and privacy compliance effectively.”

GlobalSign’s other Digital Certificate solutions will also be available from the new website, including SSL Managed Service for enterprises with multiple SSL Certificate requirements, Code Signing Certificates, Client Certificates for secure email and Microsoft Office document security, as well as Adobe PDF signing. GlobalSign’s expansion will provide the Spanish market with an exclusive “one-stop shop” for all PKI requirements.
